Girls Girls: Beauty Services by women, for women.

Beauty services have always been popular among women, but for many, the experience of getting these services done can be marred by concerns for their safety. One solution that has gained popularity in recent years is the concept of all-female spaces. In this blog post, we will explore why women feel safer getting beauty services done in all-female spaces and provide actual statistics to back up these claims.

According to a 2018 survey conducted by The Knot, an online wedding planning and registry website, 72% of brides prefer to work with female wedding vendors. The survey also found that safety was a significant factor in this preference. Women reported feeling more comfortable and secure working with other women, especially in situations where they may be vulnerable, such as getting ready for their wedding day.

This sentiment is not limited to wedding vendors. A 2016 survey by the market research firm Mintel found that 37% of women prefer to get their hair cut and styled by a female stylist. The survey also found that 22% of women prefer to visit women-only beauty salons.

Another study conducted in 2016 by the online platform, Treatwell, found that 60% of women surveyed felt more comfortable getting waxing services done in an all-female environment. The survey also found that 41% of women preferred women-only gyms for the same reason.

The reasons behind these statistics are manifold. For many women, there is a sense of comfort and camaraderie that comes from being in a female-only environment. Women feel more at ease discussing personal matters with other women, such as body hair or menstrual cycles, which can be awkward or embarrassing to bring up with a male service provider.

Moreover, women-only spaces can provide a sense of safety and security that is often lacking in mixed-gender environments. This is especially true in situations where women may feel physically vulnerable, such as when getting undressed for a massage or waxing service, or a tattoo as we do here at Vanity Collectief.

The road however, does go two ways. Many female beauty professionals also prefer female clientele. This can be for the same reasons as previously stated, but there are also some surprising reasons that female professionals prefer female clients. In a direct quote from our owner and tattoo artist, Vanna, "While I don't mind giving most anyone who wants a tattoo a tattoo, women are superheroes when it comes to sitting through it. Their pain threshold is amazing and makes the tattoo a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved." 90% of women interviewed for this post also agreed that women tip better, and have more enjoyable conversations during their appointments. So in short: we love you just as much as you love us.

Vanity Collectief is excited to create a space like this for women. We enjoy the feminine energy that exists in our space and hope you do as well. We hope that you're a girl's girl just like us.
